Not all funding comes as grants. Many public agencies and development finance institutions offer financing on better terms than commercial banks: concessional loans with lower interest rates, longer repayment periods or grace periods, repayable contributions, loan guarantees, and blended packages that combine grants and loans. These instruments can finance much larger projects than grants alone.

Alfemis Solutions helps organizations in Canada and Africa identify the right financing options, prepare strong applications and navigate the due diligence process. Depending on your eligibility, this can include Canadian regional development agencies (such as FedDev Ontario), FinDev Canada, the African Development Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), regional development banks and national development funds.

Alfemis Solutions acts as an advisor to your organization. We do not lend funds and we are not a broker; all financing decisions remain with the lender.

What You Get From Our Concessional & Blended Finance Service

— We assess which concessional and blended finance instruments fit your project, your organization type and your capacity to repay.
— We identify the public agencies and development finance institutions most likely to support your project.
— We prepare the narrative, use-of-funds summary and supporting documents lenders expect, working with your accountant on the financial elements.
— We help you answer lender questions, provide additional information and keep the process moving.
Who This Is For
• Businesses, cooperatives and social enterprises with revenue-generating projects;

• Municipalities and public entities planning infrastructure or equipment projects;

• Organizations whose projects are larger than what grants alone can fund;

• Projects in Africa seeking development finance institution support.
Why It Matters
Grants are limited and highly competitive. Concessional and blended finance can unlock larger amounts, on terms adapted to projects with social, economic or environmental impact. Combining grants with financing also reduces risk for every partner involved.

Lenders, however, look at different things than grant funders: repayment capacity, financial projections, guarantees and risk. A well-prepared application makes the difference between a quick decision and months of back-and-forth.
